Day 4 & 5
We spent most of day 4 traveling around San Francisco in an open top Double Decker bus looking at all the sights and traveling over the Golden Gate bridge a few times. Still very cold especially on the top deck of the bus. All very interesting really.
The next day we took delivery of our 1st hire car of the trip a Ford Explorer SUV and started making our way down Hwy 1 from San Francisco to Los Angeles. This road between Santa Cruz and San Simeon is a combination of our Great Ocean Road and the old Pacific Hwy between Sydney and Gosford only better.
It took us the best part of the day to get to San Simeon where we are staying overnight then onto Los Angeles tomorrow. We stopped off at Big Sur for lunch amongst the redwoods then continued to San Simeon. Just out of San Simeon we were able to observe a large pod of elephant seals on the beach only 30mtrs from the road. Then it was onto Hearst Castle to do a tour of that. This castle was built by William Randolph Hearst in the 1920's & 30's and is more a museum of fine arts than anything else. It is absolutely stunning. If you are interested visit this page http://www.hearstcastle.org/. Some of you may remember Patti Hearst, well she is his Granddaughter.
Day on the road tomorrow getting the rest of the way to Los Angeles.
